In the Palm Oil Mill industry, high-quality water is the “lifeline” of daily operations. The steam boilers that drive the turbines require water of specific purity to prevent scaling and corrosion, which can severely hamper production efficiency.
Addressing this critical need, PT Mizui Osmosa Teknovasi was entrusted by PT. Evans Indonesia to design and construct a high-capacity Water Treatment Plant (WTP) in Musi Rawas, South Sumatra.
The Challenge: Treating Musi River Water for Industrial Use
The facility utilizes raw water from the Musi River. River water sources typically present significant challenges due to fluctuating levels of turbidity and Total Suspended Solids (TSS), especially during the rainy season. Transforming this raw source into ultra-pure Boiler Feed Water requires a robust engineering approach. Without proper treatment, dissolved minerals like silica and hardness (calcium/magnesium) would rapidly damage high-pressure boiler pipes, leading to costly downtime and repairs. Our Solution: 2 x 60 m³/h Demineralization System
Our engineering team implemented a multi-stage treatment approach to ensure consistent water quality. The project scope covered engineering design, fabrication, installation, and commissioning with a total capacity of 120 m³/hour (two trains of 60 m³/h each). The implemented technologies include:- Pre-Treatment System: Clarification and filtration units to lower turbidity and remove coarse particles from the river water.
- Demineralization Plant: Utilizing Ion Exchange Resin technology (Cation and Anion columns). This process effectively removes dissolved minerals to meet strict industrial boiler standards.
- Chemical Injection: Precise dosing systems to maintain pH levels and prevent biological growth within the distribution lines.
Operational Impact & Results
The facility was successfully completed in January 2023 and is now fully operational, supporting PT. Evans Indonesia’s palm oil mill. With this system, the client benefits from:- Boiler Efficiency: Optimal heat transfer due to scale-free piping.
- Cost Savings: Reduced blowdown frequency and minimized usage of anti-scale chemicals.
- Reliable Supply: The 2 x 60 m³/h configuration ensures a continuous water supply, even when one unit is undergoing regeneration or maintenance.
